The Cobras - A journey spanning over 45 years in Melbourne's west
Albanvale Football Club was established by a group of interested parents and youths from the fast-growing community between St Albans and Deer Park. The club was created to provide sporting opportunities for young people in the area.
Location: Robert Bruce Reserve, corner of Station and Neale Roads, Deer Park (18 km west of Melbourne)
The club began with humble beginnings - the oval was little more than a rough paddock and the "clubrooms" consisted of a simple tin shed. Through the commitment of members, committees, and assistance from the City of Sunshine, permanent change-rooms were constructed and a formal playing surface was prepared.
Legacy: These facilities are still in use today, testament to the quality construction and community dedication.
Albanvale competed in the Victorian Amateur Football Association for three seasons (1989-1991), representing a significant step up in competition for the young club. This period demonstrated the club's ambition and competitive spirit before returning to regional football.
The club affiliated with the Western Region Football League where it continues to compete today. Albanvale has achieved premiership victories at various Junior levels and has grown significantly.
Current Status: Approximately 260 registered players across Under 10, Under 13, Under 15, Under 18, Reserve and Senior grades.
Notable Achievement: Many players achieve significant career milestones of 150-200 games while still in Junior ranks, demonstrating exceptional player retention and club loyalty.
